Cookie policy

This website does not set any cookies. We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or tracking pixels. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.

Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser so it can remember something between page loads or visits. Most websites use them for analytics and advertising. We do not.

One thing, and only if you ask for it. If you use the light and dark theme toggle, your choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under a single key, so the site does not flash the wrong theme the next time you visit.

Local storage is not a cookie. It is never sent to our server, we cannot read it, it holds only the word “light” or “dark”, and it cannot be used to identify you or follow you between websites. If you never touch the toggle, nothing is written at all. Clearing your browser storage removes it.

To understand which articles are useful we rely on three things, none of which sets a cookie:

• Vercel Web Analytics. It records that a page was viewed, with coarse signals such as country, device type and referring site. It stores nothing in your browser, identifies visitors with a hash that rotates daily rather than a persistent ID, and cannot follow you between websites or sessions. The script is served from this domain, so no third party sees the request.
• Umami.A second cookie-free analytics tool, added on 21 August 2026. It records page views along with the referring site, browser, operating system, device type and country. Umami’s own documentation states that it “does not use any cookies in the tracking code” and “does not collect any personally identifiable information”. Visitors cannot be identified and are not tracked between websites. Unlike the tool above, this script loads from a third-party host, cloud.umami.is, so Umami’s servers do see the request for the script itself. It still sets nothing in your browser.
• Google Analytics 4, running without cookies. Added on 29 August 2026 and loaded from Google Tag Manager’s host, googletagmanager.com. Google Analytics normally sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_HTW523EFS2, which persist for about two years. This site runs it in a mode that sets neither. Consent for analytics storage is set to deniedbefore the tag loads, which puts Google Analytics into its cookieless mode, and client storage is separately turned off. The practical effect is that we cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one, and we do not try to. Google’s servers do see the request for the script and your IP address, which Google truncates. If that ever changes, a consent banner ships before it, not after.
• Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. These are reporting dashboards that show us which search terms lead people to our pages. They are connected to our website, not to your browser, and set no cookies on your device when you visit us.

There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager and no advertising pixel. If we ever adopt a tool that needs a cookie, the consent banner goes up first — see below.

Some links on this site can be affiliate links. When you click one, you leave our website and arrive on the vendor’s website. At that point the vendor or their affiliate network may set a cookie in your browser recording that we referred you, so that we can be credited with a commission.

Three things to note:

• That cookie is set by the vendor, on the vendor’s domain, after you have left our site. We cannot read it.
• It costs you nothing and does not change the price you pay.
• The vendor’s own cookie and privacy policies apply to it. Their cookie banner, if they have one, is where you control it.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect this website, since we do not set any.

We honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. As we do not sell or share personal information, no action is required, but the signal is respected.

If we ever add cookie-based analytics or advertising, we will publish a consent banner and update this page before any such cookie is set.
