Here's the trap. You compare email verifiers on price per thousand, pick the cheapest, and upload a list. Half the results come back marked accept-all, which is not a yes and not a no, and you have already paid for every one of them.
NeverBounce is cheaper at every volume above a thousand. At a hundred thousand verifications it costs $0.00159 each against Clearout's $0.0036, which is 2.3 times less. That is the whole price story and it takes one line.
The part that decides your actual bill is which results get charged. Clearout publishes that rule. NeverBounce does not publish one at all, and separately excludes those same results from its accuracy guarantee.
So this page gives the arithmetic at three volumes, then the billing rules, then which one to buy depending on what your list looks like.

Prices read on 21 August 2026. At a thousand, pay-as-you-go at either vendor costs the same eight tenths of a cent. Past that, NeverBounce's subscription pulls away, and at a hundred thousand it is the cheapest option on the page by a wide margin.
Hunter is on this list because people compare it here, and it should not be. It is a finder that also verifies, charging half a credit to check an address, which works out at 1.2 cents. That is two and a half to nearly eight times the dedicated verifiers. Use it to find addresses, not to clean a list.
Does a catch-all cost you a credit?
This is the question, and only one of the two answers it. A catch-all, sometimes labelled accept-all, is a domain configured to accept mail to any address, so the verifier cannot tell whether the specific mailbox exists. On plenty of B2B lists it is a large fraction of the results.
Clearout states its rule in writing. Its pricing guide says an unknown status "will not be charged" because it is not a definitive outcome, while valid, invalid and catch-all results are "considered as billable service action and charged accordingly". Its published consumption table repeats it: one credit for valid, invalid or catch-all, and unknowns free. It also does not charge for duplicates within the same uploaded list.
NeverBounce publishes no equivalent rule. We read every relevant help article and found no statement exempting accept-all or unknown results from billing. The only exemption stated anywhere is deduplication. Its definition that one credit equals one email verification suggests all five of its result codes bill, but the company does not print that, so we are not reporting it as policy.
What NeverBounce does state is the part that costs you twice. It guarantees no more than three percent of your emails will bounce, and then excludes from that guarantee any address categorised as invalid, accept-all, unknown or disposable. So a catch-all almost certainly consumes a credit and definitely falls outside the accuracy promise you are paying for.
In fairness to both, neither is being evasive about what a catch-all is. NeverBounce's own documentation explains it well: accept-all is a setting on the recipient's mail server rather than a verdict on the individual address, and unknown means the server did not answer definitively in time, which is not a negative result. The gap is about billing, not about the science.
What else separates them?
- Clearout credits never expire. Its FAQ states that credits do not reset each month and that unused credits roll over and never expire. NeverBounce's pay-as-you-go credits expire twelve months after purchase.
- Clearout gives 100 free credits at signup, usable on any service, which is enough to sample a list before paying. NeverBounce's free credit offer contradicts itself across three of its own pages: one article says ten credits, another is demo-gated with no number at all, and that second article's own URL says a thousand.
- NeverBounce is a ZoomInfo company. Its footer says so. Worth knowing if you are already weighing a ZoomInfo relationship or trying to keep vendors independent.
- Clearout's "Save 10%" badge is worth 4.2% at its entry volume. Three thousand credits one-time costs $24.00 at its own slab rate against $23.00 on the monthly plan.
What about Findymail?
We could not read it. Its pricing page returns a Cloudflare bot challenge, and so do its help and documentation subdomains. We do not solve those, so Findymail has no verified price here, and the figure carried in our own directory is unbacked until someone opens the page in a browser.
That is worth stating rather than skipping, because a comparison that quietly fills the gap with a number from somewhere else is how wrong prices propagate. Three of these four publish prices you can read. The fourth does not, today.
So which should you buy?
- Cleaning a large list once, and it is mostly big-company domains: NeverBounce. At scale it is meaningfully cheaper, and if your list is light on catch-alls the billing ambiguity costs you little.
- A list heavy with catch-all domains, or ongoing verification you need to forecast: Clearout. Knowing that unknowns are free and catch-alls are billed lets you predict the invoice, and credits that never expire suit lumpy usage.
- Either way, sample first. Run a thousand records through and count what comes back as catch-all before you buy volume. That single number decides which of these two is actually cheaper for your list, and it costs about eight dollars to learn.
- Do not use a finder as a verifier. Hunter at 1.2 cents a check is several times either dedicated tool, and verification is not what you are paying it for. Where these sit in a full sending budget is covered in what cold email actually costs.
The answer to the question in the title is NeverBounce on price and Clearout on predictability, and which of those matters more is settled by one number you can measure in an afternoon: how much of your list comes back undecidable. That same question is why accuracy claims across the category cannot be compared: a vendor counting catch-alls as valid reports a higher figure on identical data.
